Today's late night snack...Vanilla Hemp milk blended with about three teaspoons of unrefined coconut oil. Yum. Its frothy and delicious.
I don't have anymore excuses...I have to get back to my practice. No solid foods after sundown (which means 6pm during the shortest days of the winter, I give myself some space), the heaviest meals are to be consumed during midday when the sun is the strongest and nothing lighter than fruit before midday (which means about 10am during this time of year). The digestive system works with the rhythm of the sun. It's strongest when the sun is strongest.
I'll have to begin incorporating many many more raw foods into my meals again. But I have to be realistic about getting the grounding foods in since Capoeira requires protein and complex carbs. Back to sprouting since it doesn't make much sense to purchase sprouts in the grocery store when I can grow my own for a few pennies in my kitchen. Besides I'm usually not satisfied with the quality of the sprouts or the possibility that they're made from genetically modified seeds. Back to lemon water in the morning--unsweetened with a little agave...sometimes. Back to respecting the simple science of the body.
Want to know more? Viktoras Kulvinska's "Survival Into the 21st Century: Planetary Healers Guide" is a pretty comprehensive text but I'll warn you now, this is on the extreme end of the spectrum. Studying Dr. Sebi's work can also be useful. However, its important to remember that our bodies are unique and its a matter of tuning in and determining what's appropriate for our unique selves--with knowledge guided by wisdom of course..."You know, my body's really okay with Twinkies." This does not suffice.
Also, as I am studying/learning in my Health Counseling courses at Integrative Nutrition, we get nourishment from a number of places--relationships, spirituality, realization of life purpose...so its important to note that the holistic approach is the best approach. Eating healthy foods but suppressing one's emotions...that don't fly.
Be well.
Peace.
